For younger students, I start with early fundamentals (music in general, breathing, and confidence) through easy songs that are recognizable and fun to learn. As a student ages, the voice matures, so I assess a student's vocal qualities and give them appropriate rep through their voice changing. For the young students who are just starting out in vocal lessons I like to recommend starting with the proper breathing techniques and moving in to singing from the diaphragm and more experienced techniques will follow after that. After we have touched on those techniques we will move in to the performance portion of the lessons and how to connect with the song and then being able to portray the message of the song clearly and efficiently to the audience so that they can connect to the emotions that are coming from the song. My teaching experience has been with my church choir. I started out as the accompanist and helper. A year or so later I found myself in the conductor's seat. For two years I worked with my church's choir to bring out the best that they could be, and to bring joy to the congregation. Not only did I conduct the choir, but I was their accompanist as well.
