I was also able to cadet teach second grade music for my entire senior year. On top of the education classes that I was required to take in college, I began taking on a couple of voice students to jump start my career as a music teacher. I now teach fifth grade general music and I enjoy every second of it. For beginner's, I do typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. For intermediate, I'll evaluate what materials they've used thus far in their lessons and go from there. If someone is familiar with a set of books in a positive way, there's no reason to change the books they're using. I do believe, however, there is profit in a variety of repertoire, so a diverse lesson is key. I have learned from experience that simply learning one genre (classical, jazz, showtunes) is less desirable than having a familiar ear to multiple styles. Read More

We'll usually start with the First Book of [Voice Part]'s Solos and mix in one or two musical theater pieces. I am a native of Russia. In 2001 I moved to the United States. In 2005 I became a US citizen. I studied music for seven years to earn my Bachelor of Arts degree in vocals and piano. I studied six more years in conservatory to obtain my Masters degrees in music performance and education. I love to teach and to see my students progress in their musical studies.
