With the beginning students I use Alfred and Bastien piano instructional books. Also, the children simultaneously learn to read notes and understand music notation. In my teaching method the goal is to combine high level of technique with musicality and individual interpretation. The beginners’ lessons are systematized as a successful blend of fun musical games and new academic material, thus learning new is fun and inspiring. In teaching adults, after they are comfortable with the basics, they can play songs in the genre they prefer - classical, pop or jazz. Read More

I have experience playing electric bass, piano, and guitar in folk, rock, jazz, and electronic music groups. Aside from my accomplishments as a performer, I am also a well-educated pedagogue and child development specialist. I have three degrees in music education. Throughout my studies I have a wealth of knowledge on how individuals learn music. Further, I have studied the relationship between musical study and emotional well-being. I sincerely enjoy making music with people of all ages, musical interests and abilities! Read More

I started to teach group music class and private lesson when I was in undergraduate. I always try to bring everything I learned from performance, music education, observing other music teacher and my own experience to every music lesson I gave. Practicing consistently is the most important way to make the lesson experience more pleasant and worthwhile. Other than introducing the music to my students, I also encourage them to perform, because sharing music is also part of the learning process. Read More

As mentioned previously, my Philosophy is this: think like a learner so that learners are able to learn from someone who thinks like them. I like to start my lessons from the very beginning which is tuning the instrument, so that the instrument sounds good. To me music is about 10% technicality and 90% feeling. Because you can play through an entire piece without any emotion and it won't be enjoyable because it doesn't feel good. Read More

My teaching style is always based around engagement. Letting the student select what he/she wants to learn is paramount to any style of study. I have found that my best teachers played as much as i did during lessons, and not just played but really showed their passion for playing! This is very important to show a student. You only have more and more fun the more you play. Read More

As a base, music is a body-mind experience. A lot of what makes music enjoyable to us has to do with our bodies and the natural way in which we react to rhythms and pitches. My teaching style points into the proprioception on how music impacts us. We will work with different exercises which allow us to see, not in a technical way but in a 'real knowing', the how's and whys of how certain music sounds like itself. Read More
