For the more advanced, I will start with a few warm-ups, and breath exercises before singing a short song (happy birthday, and/or prepared piece) before determining vocal range and repertoire. For clarinet beginners, I typically start with the "David Hite" methods book, and the "Big and Beautiful" technique outlined in "Squeak Big". I teach them to build a strong sound from open G and never leave a lesson until they can play a recognizable tune as they are learning the beginning concepts of breathing and technique. Read More

My teaching style is individualized to meet the needs of the students. I like to use a portion of the first lesson to discuss the goals and musical interest of the student regardless of age. I encourage beginner students to learn basic theory to develop rudimentary skills. I then try to incorporate a student’s favorite music into the lesson plans. I also strongly encourage voice and guitar students to write their own music to promote self expression. Read More

I think that what defines me as a teacher is the enthusiasm and faith that I have in my students, sometimes, more than what they have in themselves! This is especially true when you have professional adults in all fields of human knowledge that, due to various personal circumstances, have sacrificed the possibility of playing an instrument and / or singing. It is really beautiful when you see the excitement that is given to them, especially when they have given their children that opportunity! Read More

The "Contemporary piano technique" by Stephany Tiernan from Berklee is a nice guide where you also combine Jazz with classical and every thing else. Tiernan's concept of using the ear more than the score works beautifully with "Hearing the changes" book and her technique for relaxation and breathing is a gift from Madame Chaloff from Boston ,through Madame Vengerova all the way to Leschetizky, arguably the greatest piano teacher of all time. I break down the overall goal to a small step that is doable for the student. I am nice and patient with students, meanwhile, I insist on they accomplishing my instruction. It is fine if it takes several tries, but most importantly is that they had to try. Practicing is a way to learn from the mistake and how to avoid it. Practicing also teaches us how to be patient and doing it efficiently leading to success. Read More

I believe I have a laid back and flexible style of teaching. I try to understand each of my students musical needs and desires and clearly understand and respect that no two students are exactly alike. I try to share my passion for music and instill the same in all my students. I try to create a balance between theory and actual technique that will create an overall well balanced musician.
