I've been teaching for over 7 years. In Bolivia I directed a children's chorus and a high school chorus. Besides teaching music I also tutored kids in various academic subjects and taught dance classes. For singing lessons, I teach speech level voice production. We do scales and exercises to support the technical skills, and develop covers or original songs. We explore different styles if desired and can also record songs, which allows us to analyze each tapes and learn through listening to our own performance. Her work as a singer and actress in Colombia, began in Musical Theatre with Teatro Musical de Colombia as part of “Claus, el Musical” and “La Tonada Siniestra”. She later moved to Boston to study Professional Music, and was selected to do a special performance for honorary degree recipient, Rita Moreno, at the 2016 Commencement Ceremony as “Anita” from “West Side Story”. In 2016 Maria moved to New York to continue her career and has collaborated in projects with Folklore Urbano and ID Studio under the direction of Pablo Mayor and, HOLA award winner, German Jaramillo. I can teach classical music and technicality, to jazz songs and improvisation, to songwriting and pop/folk oriented style of playing. My passion for singing dates back to when I was a child, singing in choirs and performing in churches. In 2011, I graduated from the Greatbach School of Music at Houghton College, earning a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance with honors. I have been blessed to perform in several regional theatre productions, as well as two off-Broadway shows. I have brought my love of coaching and teaching to these productions.
