When I moved to California in 2003 I continued teaching in my home studio and at music stores in my area. Slowly I started to expand my expertise into different genres and incorporate piano and guitar in my lessons. My approach is highly structured. We might start with warm-ups. This can mean, for example, Hanon exercises on the piano. Or playing scales on the guitar. I like to set tempos and practice rhythm as we run scales and chords. Sometimes I use a beat box. I believe in getting the client playing. I play only to demonstrate. I can also be a side player, and play a rhythm part, if the client is playing a solo. Read More

I strive to create a safe space for my students where they can dive into their material and feel empowered through learning and practicing. Some weeks a piano student might complete the material rapidly and some weeks, they may want to go slower, taking their time, therefore they excel at their own comfort level and don't feel as though there is a race. With voice, I prefer to let the student pick songs that they enjoy singing and speak to their own heart. Read More
