One of my main goals as a teacher is to get to know my student, how they best learn, and what it is they love about music. My own love for music and particular bands/genres is what gave me the drive to keep practicing, and I bring this same approach to each of my lessons. Nothing makes me more happy than to see one of my students getting excited about something they are playing--and because of this, I structure my lessons to maximize the aspects of music each student enjoys, while making sure to incorporate fundamental aspects of technique and music theory regardless of the particular music we are studying. I find that learning and memorizing songs and simple repertoire is an effective way for beginning and intermediate students to advance, and that following students interest goes a long way for the learning process! Hello! I'm a vocal instructor with 10+ years of experience at the college level, but have taught all voice types and a large range of ages! I enjoy teaching all types of repertoire and have expertise in classical literature and musical theater. I began my studies as a musical theater major and then transitioned into classical music, specifically as a mezzo-soprano opera singer! I have sung all over the world as a professional opera singer, including Italy, Ireland, Japan and many places within the United States. Read More

For beginners and young children, I generally demonstrate and have them practice breathing and certain terminology before we begin singing. Once we begin singing, I use the keyboard and have them practice matching pitch. We then do warm ups, and I teach them a couple phrases that will help with pronunciation and shaping their mouths to make certain sounds.
