Ever since I can remember, I've been singing and learning everything I can about music. I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. For young beginning piano students, I typically start with John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano: The First Grade Book and move up throughout the series from there. For young beginning voice students, I start with lessons on proper breath support, sight-singing, intonation exercises, and warm-ups to shape their voice. For both my piano and voice students, I establish a strong, classical foundation that is built on fundamentals to get their instrument working properly and then branch out to other genres from there. I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. Im very passionate about music and singing. Therefore, I really like to see my students shine through and embrace that passion. I like setting realistic regular goals that will build confidence.
