After various performing opportunities in high school, I started my journey to become a music educator at the University of Miami in 2007. My participation in choral and theatre ensembles has taken me around the world practicing my passion and mastering my craft. I currently produce classical music concerts in addition to teaching private lessons. Throughout my singing career, I have had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall and Geffen Hall in New York, the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts in Philadelphia, the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami, and various locations throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Ecuador, and Spain. Other recent roles performed include Dominick Argentos Postcard from Morocco (Lady with a Hand Mirror), Candide (Cunegonde), Sweeney Todd (Johanna), and HMS Pinafore (Josephine). For basic piano, I start students with the Piano Adventure Primer level lesson book, which can easily be ordered online or found in your closest music store. If the student has little experience in music literacy, this is a great place to start and we can further explore where their interest in music lies. My teaching philosophy is to take away negative self-talk like "I can't" or "I'm bad at this" and replace this with "this is uncomfortable right now, and together we'll make it comfortable". My approach to teaching is solely based on vocal placement and having a great time. I encourage my students to mimic their favorite artists and or artist that they are not familiar with. This enables the students to loosen the tension in the voice and to get out of their comfort zones. As a performer, I find nothing more satisfying than the communication between myself and the other perfomers, the audience, the music, the poetry, and the theater. I have been thrilled to perform in musical theater throughout Colorado and to find myself loving opera here in New York. As I teach students, I constantly change my approaches depending on the needs of my students. I encourage my students to practice and think about how to approach new materials to make it less frustrating for my students. In addition, I use familiar melodies which includes classical and modern selections to help support the learning. I also allow my students to decide what they want to work on, but in exchange that they must complete certain tasks to help them develop their skills. Read More
