I try to make sure every lesson is upbeat, fun, high energy, and very focused. I use musical exercises, games, visuals and online media to ensure a fun atmosphere. I also implement awards to acknowledge accomplishments, particularly when a student reaches milestones or achievements that we clearly define during the beginning stages of lessons. Originally being a self-taught musician, I began with piano and harmonica, then eventually branched out to guitar, bass, banjo, among several others. I have ran sound equipment from an early age as well, learning how to set rigs for full bands and how to mix and master tracks for recording purposes. I believe that everyone can learn to sing, that each student is unique, and that singing should be a joy. I use a combination of classical and contemporary music, gearing each piece to a student's interests and capabilities, while also encouraging them to broaden their musical horizons and try out different genres. I started leading choirs as a teenager and have grown from there. I've taught theory and composition internationally (See a final project video on my profile), and taught violin and viola here in the States. I like to emphasize the importance of theory and composition throughout all lessons, as well as learning by play - music is an art of expression first and foremost. Anyone can learn to read music and play it aloud, but it is only those brave enough to relate it to themselves that truly become musicians. Read More

I started teaching private lessons when I was in college. During my masters program, I also taught chorus. I have taught private lessons for more than 15 years since I first started. I teach all different levels from beginners to advanced levels, and I have also taught student between the ages of 4 and 80. Classical music for me is the foundation which can help students with many techniques.
