There are many preparatory series available for beginning students. I am not particular about which series I work with. Often there are students with previous instructors and I have no trouble picking up where the student left off. I can recommend books or a series as well as supplemental skills practice books. I like to start my lessons from the very beginning which is tuning the instrument, so that the instrument sounds good. To me music is about 10% technicality and 90% feeling. My teaching style is individualized to meet the needs of the students. I like to use a portion of the first lesson to discuss the goals and musical interest of the student regardless of age. I encourage beginner students to learn basic theory to develop rudimentary skills. I then try to incorporate a student’s favorite music into the lesson plans. I create lesson plans for students based off of their passions. If a younger child has never read music before, success is usually found in working with music that they are interested in. If a student is beginning to study improvisation a similar approach is used with styles of soloists that they are very familiar with. I gained international recognition as a vocal performer of note, having performed on the stages of Acapulco, Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore, Aruba, Curacao and Buenos Aires, to name a few, as well as major U. S. cities.
