I am a professional performer and vocal instructor, and have sung on professional stages such as Mount Baker Theater's repertory theater and the Whatcom Symphony opera series in Bellingham, Washington. I am a classically trained musician and relish singing folk, jazz, and other popular styles of singing. Methods change depending on a student's level.  I want a beginner to feel completely comfortable being a beginner.  We start with the basics and I adjust material to personal levels of development.  If you have previous experience, we will use the first lesson to assess technique and repetorie and advance from there.  I am aware of several piano workbooks that take you from beginner to level four, these are not always the best for every student. As students master the exercises new ones are assigned and worked on. Additionally, I assign repertoire that enables the student to work on the needed technical skills. In terms of repertoire selection, I always keep the student's interests in mind, but I always make sure that the student has one piece that has been carefully curated by me.
