With 20+ years of experience with guitar, vocals, drums, and percussion, and a stylistic reach that includes everything from jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, funk, and soul to classic rock, pop, singer-songwriter, Latin, reggae, world music, and beyond, I will assist you in cultivating the essential tools to take your musical journey to the next level, regardless of your age and musical background. Beginning in grade school when I started giving lessons to friends and family members, I have taught students from all walks of life; have had students that were young, old, and everything in between; and have taught both individuals who had never even touched an instrument in their lives and students who had been playing for many years. I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have studied with some great teachers and feel like I need to pass on those methods to the next generation of musicians. Read More

Every person has different strengths, weaknesses, motivators, and goals. I like to keep all of these things in mind before I start designing a lesson plan for each person. I like to make sure that I am teaching both the ear to listen and the eye to read, so I make sure I can improve the development of both by providing effective sight=reading and aural exercises in every lesson. Since each student begins and progresses at a differing pace, I strive to create realistic goals for each student at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments along the way always help to improve their desire to learn more. My goal is for the student to enjoy the learning experience as much as I enjoy the teaching experience! This, in turn, leads to a student's increased self confidence as a musician. Performing in a recital or other venue reinforces the student's progress and ability to communicate through music. I am a fun and passionate teacher when it comes to music. When attending college for my performance degree I had thought that I would not want to teach others and just focus on performing. And as much as I love to perform I have found a love for passing along my enthusiasm and knowledge of music. I have worked as a Pre-K teacher for 7 years before deciding to try to make giving lessons a full-time thing, which I am still working towards. Read More

I approach each student knowing that every student is unique and so is their learning style. While the information that is delivered to each student remains the same, the manner in which I teach each student varies widely. I try to foster the best student-teacher relationship possible in order to gain the confidence and trust of both the student and their families. I also have much experience teaching students with unique characteristics such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger's, etc. Read More
