Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. If a student in toddlerhood/childhood shows that they have a preferred way to express themselves musically, I will tailor lessons around the Kodaly (voice), Orff (instrumental), or Dalcroze (dance) philosophies. I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. The method books applies to my philosphy of teaching rhythm in syllables (ta, ti-ti, etc.) and found success with all my students in their abilty to read notes and play well. I am a native of Flower Mound, Texas, and I was first introduced to the joy of singing in my church’s children’s chorus at the age of five. I belonged to that chorus until I graduated from Marcus High School in 2013. In addition, I was a member of my school choruses beginning in fifth grade. A typical piano lesson will include work on technique, listening skills, sight-reading and music notation. More advanced students will learn the fundamentals of harmony. The listening skills are important because if the student enjoys what (s)he is hearing, (s)he will be more motivated to practice. I am a passionate voice and beginning piano teacher with over ten years of experience teaching. For beginner piano students I use the Piano Adventures curriculum. With voice students I use an integrated technique involving Alexander Technique, Yoga, and the Swedish-Italian School of singing. I also believe in maintaining a positive and challenging learning environment for my students.
