Instruments: Voice
I began teaching voice students after grad school. I soon learned that students progress more quickly and with more confidence if they're given a program that was constructed just for THEM; so I teach each student with specific tasks and interests depending on their unique background. At the end of each lesson, I type out a summary of what we covered in the lesson, then some specifics about what to practice, for how long, and why. Read More

I started teaching piano and drums in church around the age of 18. Once I got to college, I picked up trombone, piano and singing lessons for various students aging from 4 years old-22 years old. I realized that teaching, part time, was a passion of mine and greatly became something that I focused my efforts on full time. Now, as a professional musician, I take pride in helping others achieve their music dreams. Read More

I began by tutoring my fellow students during college. Little by little, I realized that I was becoming more passionate about seeing the students progress and achieve the goals they set for themselves. There is almost no greater feeling than accomplishing a goal, and even though I always acknowledge and encourage students on their accomplishments, I believe there's always another step to take, another skill to master. I also believe, especially with beginners, that rooting a students skill with the bare basics is essential to understanding music. Read More

The methods I use change depending on the student, but generally, I use the following: - Piano: start with Alfreds (suited for age/proficiency), then choose a specialty (improvising, classical, pop, etc) - Guitar: start with Hal Leonard (for note reading), then choose a specialty (jazz, pop, classical, flamenco, etc) - Voice: because of the nature of the human voice, I dont use a book, but rather teach principles and methods to use during practice and performance Regardless of the instrument, I hope to help you improve as much as I can. Lessons are fun! My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime. After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument or voice, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play/sing introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing/singing multiple songs. Read More
