Music and art is what I live for. During middle school, piano was my favorite class, and at a young age I knew I wanted to become a music teacher. I have been teaching myself guitar since I was 14 years old. Although I have been in many bands of many styles, Flamenco and Classical music is my real passion. From Cafe Sevilla in downtown, to Cafe Europe in PB, I perform on various stages around San Diego. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my childhood in ministry and then at sixteen I had the opportunity to direct at school and to found and direct a Musical Theatre Ministry at church. As I continued to direct and teach both Music and Musical Theatre in college and as a professional I decided to take on private students in 2005 and have loved every moment of teaching my private students. The methods I use change depending on the student, but generally, I use the following: - Piano: start with Alfreds (suited for age/proficiency), then choose a specialty (improvising, classical, pop, etc) - Guitar: start with Hal Leonard (for note reading), then choose a specialty (jazz, pop, classical, flamenco, etc) - Voice: because of the nature of the human voice, I dont use a book, but rather teach principles and methods to use during practice and performance Regardless of the instrument, I hope to help you improve as much as I can. While I understand that fundamentals are necessary and the need to learn and study the "how" and "why" of music is incredibly important, there is absolutely a place for popular music. I strive to create a fun and captivating setting for students that includes making connections between standard repertoire and modern popular music. Once I understand a students wants or needs I will be able to adjust my curriculum to better fit the specific needs of that student. Read More

I am extremely enthusiastic! Nothing is more rewarding to me than to see my students embrace their love of music, on their own terms. I am a flexible, versatile teacher and am always thinking on my feet. I like to encourage students to set their own goals with my guidance and strive to empower my students with their own sense of musical autonomy. I believe that the more a student is encouraged and empowered to follow their own musical interests, the deeper their commitment to practicing and growing will be! Read More

For my VOICE students, I believe in the 5 steps method. This consists in 1. Relaxing, 2. Breathing, 3. Vocalization, also known as Vocal Warm-Ups, 4. Sol-fa, 5. Song Preparation. My voice students know that their voices is the only instrument that cannot be bought and replaced, and for that reason, we all need to take good care of it and educate it so it lasts forever. For my GUITAR students, I start with left and right hand exercises so the fingers get articulated and well trained. Read More
