I assess each student in their first lesson to see their entrance level and motivation. From there we discuss goals and I cater each lesson for each student. For children and teens it is usually to feel confident singing, prepping auditions and performances. They usually have a lot of motivation and a willingness to take risks and know they are being taught in a safe space to explore. I also volunteer taught students from low-income families through the Azusa Pacific Conservatory for two years. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, I took over a former teacher's studio of 20+ students while he toured in Europe. I use little Mozarts for children who are autistic, learning disabilities and under 5 years old. We have a wonderful time and sometimes younger children need a parent or caregiver to help them online. It is so amazing and fun to see them understand and get big smiles on their faces. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student.
