I am currently employed in East County as the choral and band director for an incredible middle school. Before that I was the director of music, bands, choirs, and performing arts in Harrison, New Jersey, right outside New York City. I have a Bachelor of Music and Theatre Arts from New Jersey City University where I also performed as a graduate student enrolled in Music Education with a concentration in French Horn Studies. My pedagogy in both instrumental and vocal studies has allowed me to bring a unique and diverse perspective in the both vocal and instrumental ensembles. I love sharing what I've learned about singing through my decades as a Professor at Berklee College of Music, Boston. Berklee is the #1 college that teaches Commercial Music (mostly Jazz and Pop). Currently I sing a combination of pop and classical in church as well as teach fitness in Encinitas. I have written books on singing and American diction as well as having recorded with symphonies and jazz bands. My studio includes a computer, printer, BOSE P.A. as well as capability for playing CD's or cassette tapes, and of course, my piano. Read More

I assess each student in their first lesson to see their entrance level and motivation. From there we discuss goals and I cater each lesson for each student. For children and teens it is usually to feel confident singing, prepping auditions and performances. They usually have a lot of motivation and a willingness to take risks and know they are being taught in a safe space to explore. Adults usually come in for confidence, to sing on key in front of their friends to professionals who need an extra ear to refine their instrument and skills. Read More

I focus on several different areas for every student, so that he/she can keep progressing in all areas of technic and musical knowledge: WARM-UPs, SCALES, MUSIC THEORY, SIGHTREADING, and PREPARED PIECES. And as all music students 'should', it's important to build a good habit of practicing with a metronome. My experience in both the civilian and military music communities has given me a very open-minded but direct approach to WHAT you should learn, and HOW FAST you should be able to progress each individual student. Currently, I sing in a big band swing trio called The Harmonettes. We perform locally and throughout the state of California. I perform with various musicians and ensembles, and have served for many years as part of the music ministry at my church. I've had the privilege of being part of the vocal teaching team for our gospel choir, as well as serving on the worship team, teaching introductory voice classes, conducting the children's Christmas choir, and other aspects of the arts ministry Read More

While I understand that fundamentals are necessary and the need to learn and study the "how" and "why" of music is incredibly important, there is absolutely a place for popular music. I strive to create a fun and captivating setting for students that includes making connections between standard repertoire and modern popular music. Once I understand a students wants or needs I will be able to adjust my curriculum to better fit the specific needs of that student. Read More

I began teaching private lessons about four years ago. Originally I used it as a means to practice teaching but I fell in love with the process and have continued ever since. I have taught at various music studios as an in-studio instructor and also as an in-home instructor. It is my goal to make each lesson enjoyable for the students. I like to keep a balance between classical repertoire and technique while allowing the student to branch out into the realm of popular music if they choose. Read More
