I have been teaching students of all ages since 2010. I have been teaching both in my home studio and at the students home, I have also taught in Public Schools and in Music stores. My goal as a teacher is to get students excited about music and have them looking forward to our lessons together and inspire them to learn more and practice. For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with the Schaum piano series and will supplement with different pieces or books as the student progresses. I will discuss with the student what type of music they prefer to work on and take this into consideration, as well as any music the student brings in that they would like to work on. I have been teaching since getting my masters in 1999 - from Brooklyn and NYC to New Haven, CT, where I now teach vocal technique to all ages at the Educational Center for The Arts (Performing Arts High School) and at the Neighborhood Music School. For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice. 4 to 6 year olds - I ask that they know their alphabet, and I will take care of the rest. I feel it should be just a fun experience and practicing should not be forced, but encouraged. I like having my students take advantage of any school/local recital opportunities that might arise as it provides great experience. My students get to choose some of their repertoire and lesson content as it makes it more enjoyable for them. I do require all students to play scales as they provide an essential foundation for all that they will play.
