When I first subbed in as a teacher, I knew teaching music was for me. I am a multi-instrumentalist,performer,songwriter,producer,as well as being an instructor of music. About the time I started a family, I consolidated my teaching, opening a home studio while maintaining my position at the boarding school. Since 2006 I have taught every year in a summer arts program for gifted and talented youth, only taking off the summer of 2013 while on maternity leave. I teach both classical reading and modern music theory to ensure a well rounded approach. I use the book series by Faber to cover classical reading. I believe Faber books do an excellent job at covering all areas of music. I make sure to keep tabs on my students' practicing as I believe in consistency. Encouraging a periodic practice outside of lessons is one of the key points I like to emphasize for young students, as it tends to make further progress from what students are learning as in homework material. I also love to implement music appreciation, engaging students to listen to classical music and on the role it plays within the broader contexts of history and society. For piano students ages 5-9, I generally use the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures series. For piano ages 10-12 I use the Older Beginner series. My teen and adult students normally work out of and Adult All in One series. For more advanced piano students Ill work repertoire, theory and scales/technique as needed/desired by the student. My professional singing career began years later while I was living in Greece. I joined a band of teachers from the Music Conservatory of Kalamata and began performing as a jazz soloist in international hotels, festivals and state funded performances promoting culture and tourism.
