For beginning adult piano students, I use Alfred's Adult PIano Method. For the more advanced students, music is typically chosen from a variety of sources, so that the student is playing music that is challenging and enjoyable. I start each student with the Frances Clark Series. This is terrific in introducing all musical components to the learner. It starts off right away using ALL the notes on the piano. Black notes are used exclusively in some repertoire. Each building block is built upon the next and it just nicely adds , in a non-threatening way to what the student has learned before. I studied composition at Haverford College, where I led a number of vocal ensembles and music directed several musical theater productions. While at Haverford, I toured colleges on the East Coast with my male-voiced a cappella group, and I also toured both Mexico and Germany with the Chamber singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges. After college and marrying, I spent several years in Greece raising my daughters. There, I launched a career in teaching English. My students ranged in age from 3 years old to 65. My musical backround made the lessons fun. I helped organize concerts, musicals and performed with bands. I also welled with pride in watching my daughters participate in these events. . Because the voice is not as concrete as instruments, I do not use a specific, rigid method. Every voice is unique to the person. I create individual lessons plans for each student, and I tailor the exercises to the needs of that particular student.
