My favorite thing about teaching is getting to discover how others learn. The approach I use for one student will not always work for another. I think every person has a unique learning style and I love to develop new ways to teach concepts to my students. I work to encourage my students to be an active participant in setting and achieving goals in our work together, while maintaining a fun, positive atmosphere. Read More

I always start with a strong Classical Foundation, and also specialize in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Styles. Some students love classical music, and we work on Italian arias...while others love 80s Metal Bands, and we work on healthy ways to approach contemporary music. For Musical Theatre, I make sure my students have a wide range of genres at the ready, so they are equally prepared to audition for both My Fair Lady or Hamilton. Read More

Music is a language! I teach music in a similar manner as we learn to speak. We learn to speak through trial and error having no wrong words and music should be taught in a similar fashion, where there are no wrong notes. We learn our speaking style, manner and/or accents by what we hear and this concept also applies to music; therefore listening is a crucial part for advancement and the pleasure of learning. My teaching style specifically fits each individual students needs. Every student has different challenges that they face during their musical education. I also know that each student works at his or her own pace. I like to give praise and rewards to my students that work hard to accomplish a goal to help instill confidence and desire to continue along their creative journey. Read More

For beginning piano students I typically use the Alfred Method. Once the student demonstrates a grasp of the fundamentals I introduce solo repertoire. For adults I typically use the John Thompson Adult Piano Course and we work together to find the solo repertoire. For voice lessons, I typically teach the bel canto style. I will work with vocalises that help develop breath control, placement and open vowels. I also use the Music Theory for Singers program to teach Music Theory and also use solfeggi to build sight singing skills. Read More

I currently teach voice and theory at Norman Music Institute in Norman, OK. I have been teaching there since March of 2019. I also have been teaching students off and on over the past 7 years. Having been a college student needing to move between states every few years has made it difficult to keep things consistent, but I have certainly seen success in my students in the time I have had with them. Whether it's classical voice, jazz improvisation, or songwriting, I adapt my approach to meet the specific needs and preferences of each student. Holistic Development: I prioritize the holistic development of my students, focusing not only on technical proficiency but also on musical expression, creativity, and critical thinking. Read More
