I try to concentrate on the learning progress and enthusiasm of the student. I want to know what motivates them and the parents and help them focus on that. I also encourage performance opportunities and recitals to give them goals to work towards. I go at the students pace while challenging them to the next learning objective. My lessons are very interactive and tailored to their needs while at the same time following a standardized scope and sequence to make sure all the essentials are covered. Read More

As a recent graduate, I am still pretty new at this! However, I am incredibly motivated and confident that you will benefit greatly from the skills I have to offer. My educational experience includes; volunteer work at Eisenhower Middle School in Manhattan, KS; observation of Buhler High School's choral department; private voice lessons with two college age males at K-State; and a current position as a para at Lawrence High School. I am a very caring and passionate instructor who wants to bring the best out of my students. I graduated from College of the Ozarks with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theater Performance. I am a part of a music group called, "And He Walks With Me" and I have the immense privilege of traveling with the group across the country, spreading the message of Christ's love and mercy. For beginner's, I do typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books. For intermediate, I'll evaluate what materials they've used thus far in their lessons and go from there. If someone is familiar with a set of books in a positive way, there's no reason to change the books they're using. I do believe, however, there is profit in a variety of repertoire, so a diverse lesson is key. I have learned from experience that simply learning one genre (classical, jazz, showtunes) is less desirable than having a familiar ear to multiple styles. Read More

I believe in a student learning to hear music and think for themselves. Through ear training, creativity, and learning "how" music works, the goal is to get each student to not need a teacher to learn their instrument, but want a teacher so they may become their best version of it. I focus on this as a primary value in my studio. In lessons, we'll use formulas and concepts to understand "why" things sound good, and "how" we actually get better. Read More

For beginners, I always start with a classical approach, which stresses the importance of posture and breathing. We'll usually start with the First Book of [Voice Part]'s Solos and mix in one or two musical theater pieces. This is in tandem with learning how to warm up, learn pieces, what memorizing looks like, and how to emote. These are constantly evolving things that can be used with any skill level. Read More

For beginning students, I like to start by assessing the students' skill by having them sing a piece of music of their choice. I am a strong believer in students taking charge of their learning, so I like to have my students choose a piece of music of their choice, and I will pick another piece of music that I believe suits their voice. Each lesson will start with breathing techniques and a vocal warm up. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
