I have been teaching voice lessons for almost ten years to students of all ages, skill levels, and preferred genres. Many of my students have been successful on stage, in auditions, competitions, and in gaining acceptance into music schools across the country. My focus is to guide my student in finding their own voice in a healthy way. Every student has a different goal in taking voice lessons. I find that their methods for both kids and adults not only covers the basic fundamentals of music, but they are also able to make everything comprehensive and enjoyable. For guitar, I like to use Hal Leonard's basic guitar book for students focusing on popular music and basic guitar, and for classical guitar I like to use the Christopher Parkening Method. Read More

I cater the lessons towards what the student wants while emphasizing the importance of fundamentals and theory. I incorporate songwriting and improvisation into my lessons, as well as songs the student wants to learn. I believe all students should be encouraged to be creative, while still maintaining a strong emphasis on fundamentals, thus leading to the creation of their unique musical style. I generally tend to split the lessons up into warm up techniques, repertoire, sight reading, listening/dictation, discussing music the student likes/wants to learn, and improvisation and songwriting. I am very relaxed in my teaching style and love the satisfaction of teaching privately. I choose to teach privately due to the heightened intensity of interaction with students and the fact that we can create a process that is uniquely adapted to the needs of each student. I have expectations for my students and they have expectations for me. I love that. Music should not be boring or intimidating, so I teach to my students' personalities and their comfort levels. I will ask my students to try rigorous exercizes but I will do so in a manner that is fun and rewarding, not exhausting. I enjoy adding humor to my lessons and I like to keep the mood light and conversational because music is as much about connection and communication as it is about notes. Read More
