For every student, beginner or advanced, I talk to them about the style of teaching I provide. I first talk to them about the different segments in the voice: lower "ah" segment, chest segment, chest pull-falsetto segment, pure falsetto segment, and upper "ah" segment. I provide different warm ups that work in each of the segments, helping the voice gradually connect them in time. For all my students I design a fun atmosphere where they feel comfortable, stimulated and encouraged to absorb musical knowledge. Depending on their musical backgrounds and their ability I discuss with my students and their parents(depending on student's age) what is their primary goal to achieve during the lesson, what style they want to concentrate on. When we get to know each other I assign my student with Vaccai classical tune (practices vocal technique) and two songs in style preferred, when a student learns and masters these we move on, with more difficult tunes each time. We are learning together; I just provide the guidance and tools! Lessons are tailored to each student, and I love to structure lessons in different ways to add energy and intrigue to the lesson. For Beginner students I have them start with the recorder. The instrument allows for a smooth segue to the flute being that the student can see their fingers and the recorder does not require the same air speed and lung capacity that the flute does so the student can pace themselves. For intermediate or advanced students I will go through orchestral excerpts, etudes, or technical studies with them. I follow the same model with my adult students, if they are just starting out I will recommend beginning on recorder to solidify fingerings however the mental and physical capacity of an adult versus a young child are very different. For a beginning student on guitar, I have them learning notes from a Hal Leonard, Mel Bay, or Alfred starter book. All these books are great, but I believe it depends on the individual student and how they learn. I also teach tab to beginners. I feel it is important to read tabs these days as well as notes. I also work with music theory. It is also important to know what you are doing, not just putting your fingers on the strings. Read More

I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests.
