I like seeing progress and appreciation in music, and to me that is student success. I enjoy helping students meet their individual goals, and I encourage them to work their hardest to achieve their best. I use humor to keep things engaging. I learn from my students what works most effectively for them as individuals. One of the things my students really enjoy are those certificates at the end of the method books. Read More

I also look closely at these aspects with more advanced students. With children, I always discuss lesson plans and teaching methods with the parents prior to any lesson. Once these criteria have been assessed, I will then proceed to my aforementioned method of implementing theory and techniques that will directly aid in the student's achievement of their personal goal. My goal is neither to make an individual into a carbon copy of myself as a musician, or even make them into the best, most competent musician. Read More

When I was 12 years old, I showed an interest in the bass guitar and decided to pick it up and quickly began expanding my musical palette. The love for the instrument carried on strongly throughout my teenage years where I performed in my acclaimed high school jazz band for all four years, involving me in local competitions, as well as performing in Chicago. I furthered my musical education attending college at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, CA and earned my Bachelor Degree in music performance, studying upright bass under Putter Smith, and electric bass with bassists such as Brian Allen, Stu Hamm, Michael Mennell and Ernest Tibbs. Because of the nature of the bass in musical settings, my approach to teaching is one I consider "wholistic". That means that in conjunction with developing fundamental technique and building repertoire etc., lessons will involve listening to songs and discusing elements such as groove and instrumental tone. I believe that the study of music should be fun. Because of this, I like to get a feel of what music my students enjoy no matter the age or skill level, that way I can custom fit the material of an individual's lesson to get the best results. I love sharing my knowledge with others. Nothing makes me happier than seeing a student acheive their musical goals. I like to keep my lessons fun and interesting. I try to create a fun but realistic experience to ensure that my student's interest is maintained while progress is achieved. I also welcome feedback from my students to cater to each individual's style and abilities. This helps me be more reflective and aware of each student's process. Read More

I have been teaching music for 10 years. In that time I have taught in 3 major cities, or 2 continents both privately and through respected insitutions such as the Hollywood Academy of Music and Brooklyn Guitar School.During my most recent time in New York (over 2 years), I maintained a roster of 15-20 private weekly students, throughout the 5 boroughs.Working with different students from different backgrounds in multiple cities has greatly informed my teaching and stoked my passion for passing on my musical knowledge. I love seeing my students become as passionate about music as I am! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. It's important for each student to have just the right amount of material to work on each week, so that they are progressing without feeling overwhelmed. I also make sure to acknowledge the work that might students put in, and encourage them to feel proud of what they accomplish. Read More
