I believe in encouraging my students and supporting them, having them reach acheviable goals and having them work at a pace that is realistic I believe will develop their understanding and love for music. By combining a students interest with essential fundamentals of music I have found that my previous students have advanced their playing whilst denjoying the experience. When passing on my love for music I like to play a piece of music to my students and try to convey why this music is important to me and I like to hear pieces that my students love so I can see where they are coming from. My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played music for 35 years. I started on clarinet in 7th grade and soon after discovered guitar. I picked up bass in high school was awarded a full scholarship to play with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra while majoring in music. i have been teaching for 55 yrs both privately and in teaching studios as well as in group settings . i have volunteered teaching classes at the ymca , the boys and girls clubs . continuing education at northern kentucky university . i have taught musicians on stage as we perform . i love to teach as well as i love to play live. i also teach music theory and composition. i teach all stringed instruments including piano and drums . i teach all instruments . even those that i do not actually play . sax flute trumpet etc. if you can play one instrument you can play them all once you know where the notes are . right ? lol . For children, I draw influence from the organization of the Suzuki method, while still maintaining the emphasis on fun. (Learning TV theme songs, etc) Fundamentals are introduced with memorable examples tailored to the students musical interests. For all other levels of experience, I encourage the student to share with me what exactly it is that they want to learn or need help with. If the student has no idea, I will take over and decide what is missing from the students repetoire, and find the most effective way of tackling these new skills while maintaining fun.
