Ive been teaching private guitar lessons since graduating from NYU Im 2009. My lessons draw upon the music theory concepts that I mastered in college, as well as my extensive experience playing in my own band. I straddle the line between a trained approach and an organic, intuitive approach. You will learn to use music theory as a foundation to fully develop your own style. You need to learn the rules first in order to break the rules! Read More

It is a great book for all ages and covers the necessary beginner to intermediate topics that build a solid understanding of guitar and music fundamentals. It presents technical, rudimentary, and musical aspects in an easy to understand format. I have other books that I pull examples from for topics being studied as well. I often create my own custom lessons for which the students and I work on together to create a lesson plan that can be viewed via tablet or computer, or printed out in PDF form. Read More

I start out with fundamental theory, scales, and chords, along with easy songs and riffs. I teach student differently depending on their skill and ability level. I utilize textbooks and DVDs to accompany the lessons. My approach is straight forward, which enables the students to learn quickly.I think the visual aspect of the guitar is very important, so I focus a lot on theory applied directly to the guitar. My method involves a two part approach - one is to teach proficiency with basics (reading and playing music). The other is to learn what music is, and how to keep yourself interested, progressing and that is by creating, modifying, improvising and composing. I believe everyone should dedicate at least part of their time with music to creativity. My methods also teach proficiency as the means to an end - creating great music. Read More

My teaching experience is rather diverse. I started teaching private lessons thirty years ago and I always loved sharing what I knew with others. I've never stopped teaching private lessons, but I've also taught group lessons and music classes in private schools, I've taught adult classes and I've taught college classes at two schools in New Jersey. I like to combine fundamentals of music with showing students what I'm currently up to with the main goal of getting the student to be able to play what he or she wants to as soon as possible. I have been playing in original and cover bands for 30 years and I currently perform as a guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist in a cover band that I founded in 1999. My band has appeared on VH-1 and we have had the opportunity to play up and down the East Coast. As a volunteer, I perform as an acoustic guitarist in a church music group every Sunday. I have been a part-time instructor at a local music store for 13 years and I am looking to sign on more students than they are able to provide. Read More

Everyone is different. Some students learn faster by using their ears and some by reading. Both of these skills are clearly important but one will always be weaker. This is where knowing your student and what they're trying to achieve is important. Some students want to learn a simple drumbeat, some want to learn a specific song. I have two goals in my lessons. One: What does the student want to learn? Read More
