I am a passionate full time musician that both teaches and performs. I have been teaching private lessons for 9 years and performing for 4 years. I started out as an academically driven violinist while playing guitar recreationally. However, in college fell in love with playing guitar in the Jazz band and soon their after, I found my love for songwriting. I wrote, recorded, and published under the band name City of Decades while performing all over the country. Read More

I have been teaching music off and on since college. It originally started with a few friends who asked if I could help show them some scales and such, and then grew from there. More important than anything to me is that the student is there by choice and really wants to learn. Practicing and playing music never seems like work to me, it is always fun, and I try to make it that way for my students also. Read More

At the end of the day we're here to make sure the student learns the instrument and progresses towards their ultimate goal. I am very much letting the student take the lessons at their own pace and not rushing them through anything. Nothing is worse than having to go back and correct a bad habit years later because of a rushed lesson! I focus on making sure the student truly understands the lesson and can apply it practically. For beginning students who have no experience on their instrument, I usually spend a fair chunk of time working on basic technique using books like the Essential Elements series or Greg Horne's similar books for folk instruments. I usually combine the book material with other songs/pieces relevant to each student's interests. For more advanced students, I usually find a mix of repetoire relevant to their interests and technical exercises for them to refine and develop technique. Read More

Though I've been playing music since I was 10 years old, I had always viewed it as a hobby until I was a junior in College. After graduating from Texas State University in 2010, I nose-dived into the Austin music scene and after a couple years of networking and collaborating with other musicians, I found myself performing with a band called Calliope Musicals. In 5 years, we've toured and performed all over the continent and I've learned more about music and myself in that time than I ever have before. Read More

When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For adults, I like to analyze my student's musical interests and try to associate lessons in that style of repertoire. Read More

I've had the opportunity to take guitar and voice lessons from a number of great instructors, and have learned a multitude of great methods from them. When learning the fundamentals of guitar, I find it easiest to first learn through visually learning the hand shapes and hearing the different notes and intervals. The names of the chords and sight reading can come secondary once you have a basic understanding of how to play. Read More
