As a guitar teacher, I like to start with getting the student accustomed with each string, including how to tune a guitar and how to play different notes on each string. Next, I start teaching chords by starting with E minor and then moving as little as possible with the fingers so the student can understand the relation between certain chords. For voice, I start with posture and breath support and work on vocal techniques before we even start with singing songs. Read More

I am an active performer an educator based in NYC. I have a deep relationship with the Electric and Acoustic Bass, and the Guitar. My relationships with these instruments have encouraged my to study and perform many genres of music. During my studies at Berklee, I had the opportunity to delve into many different aspects of music. My primary focuses were in performance and music education, though I also pursued writing/arranging, music business, and music history. Read More

I believe in setting achievable milestones, celebrating accomplishments, and continuously challenging students with new objectives. This approach fuels their desire to progress and makes them eager to explore more, whether they're mastering a specific technique or delving into a new genre. What truly inspires me as a teacher is connecting with my students on a personal level, uncovering what motivates them, and weaving that inspiration into our lessons. Whether it's a particular song, artist, or style, I strive to incorporate elements that resonate with them. Read More

I truly enjoy seeing each of my students develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for music. I believe each student must be taught in a way that allows them to grow and develop at their own pace, and without feeling overwhelmed. Through positive praise and personal accomplishments a student's desire to progress fuels their motivation. By working closely with each student, I find their inspirations and tailor my instruction to their needs. Read More

A total beginner will usually start by learning chord progressions that are specifically in a major scale progression (ex. C-Dm-Em-F-G-Am-Bdim). Using chord progressions allows my students to grow accustomed to the feel of the guitar and the fundamental hand strength needed to play, as well as the finger dexterity needed to play certain chords. This fundamental also introduces them to major scales, and the sound of chord progressions in the major scale. Read More

Because I have gained so much in terms of amazing experiences from playing, writing, recording and performing music, I want to pass that passion on to those who are interested in learning music, and an instrument, themselves. I am very plan-oriented, knowing that students learn differently and progress at their own pace. In following the structure of a plan for learning, I build in some opportunities for students to experiment with what has been learned, in a way that other students have found to be fun, so that a deeper understanding of the fundamentals of the instrument, and musical structure, are gained by the student. I started my teaching career in 1996, teaching at the same music studio where I took lessons when I was younger. I try to carry some of the teaching techniques that were shown to me when I was taking lessons into my own style of teaching. This includes making the lesson fun as well as educational for the student. Daily practice is strongly encouraged, as well as playing with other musicians, recitals, and writing their own songs.
