I began teaching piano 4 years ago, I had not originally intended on teaching, but I had several people inquire about lessons, since they had seen me perform. I began to pick up more and more students, and I realized that I am actually very passionate about teaching, and sharing all of the knowledge that I acquired over the years. I encourage my students to be creative and write there own music as well as learning traditional and contemporary pieces to even out their repertoire. Read More

I began as a formal teacher during my senior year at The University of New Haven, teaching private instrumental lessons as well as tutoring existing students in theory and other music classes. I have taught students as young as 5 years old as well as adults much older than myself with incredible results. My primary instruments are guitar and drums/percussion. I have also taught numerous piano and bass guitar students all whom have recieved a great start to their musical journey. Read More

I am a passionate full time musician that both teaches and performs. I have been teaching private lessons for 9 years and performing for 4 years. I started out as an academically driven violinist while playing guitar recreationally. However, in college fell in love with playing guitar in the Jazz band and soon their after, I found my love for songwriting. I wrote, recorded, and published under the band name City of Decades while performing all over the country. Read More

Mel Bay's first 2 bass books were my first but there are many to choose from. Starting slow is imperative for the beginner. This prevents injury because bass is a physically demanding instrument at times. I teach warm ups, breathing, posture, hand and arm positions, stretches, and cool downs. Practicing with a metronome must be a daily routine for the evolving bassist because they are the beat no matter what style. Read More

When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For adults, I like to analyze my student's musical interests and try to associate lessons in that style of repertoire. Read More

For beginning students, I emphasize fundamentals, including technique, sound quality, and reading. With children, I like to start with method books such as Essential Elements or the John Thompson series for piano. For more advanced pupils, I will start with what they are currently working on, find areas for improvement, and then adjust the curriculum accordingly. However, no matter what the students interests or skill level are, I try and keep the lessons light, fun, and interesting! Read More

I create custom lesson plans depending on each student's musical background, stylistic preference, as well as age. For children I usually like to teach out of Hal Leonard's Guitar Method 1 and occasionally include songs they like/know as a reward for good work. For adults, it varies depending on their experience level and interests. When I teach, I try to teach not only how to physically play certain parts, but also how to think about music-- how the guitar player arrived playing that, why it works, and how to adopt similar things into one's own playing.
