For beginner kids, I typically use the Liela Fletcher Lesson Book series. I find that my students usually progress faster with this series. For teens and adult beginners, I use the James Bastien "Older Beginner Series or John Thompson series to get them started. After basic fundamentals have been I established then I direct the lessons in the area of the student's interest. Sometimes I am able to do this while the student is learning the fundamentals. My teaching methods are relatively universal. With younger students, I focus more on learning to have fun while learning about their instrument at the same time. The more fun they're having, the more likely they are to stick to it. For adults, I keep this same philosophy in tact, but incorporate more technique, theory, and performance practice into our sessions in order to facilitate the learning curve. Once I know what my student enjoys about music, I tailor my lessons around that. Read More

I love people and I love music. My gift is teaching, and I think about it all the time. It gives me great joy to share what I have with you. I teach all aspects of brass playing: air control, embouchure development, articulation, tone, range, and musical interpretation of all styles. I teach a complete understanding of the guitar fretboard. I incorporate music theory and an understanding of chord structure in all lessons, and for all instruments that I play and teach. Read More

Over 25 years of experience writing, recording and performing original music. I play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. I was a percussive member of the Bands of America 1997 Finalist Lassiter Marching Band. Member of many bands, including local touring act Ribbit (2005-2010). But mainly music has been a form of therapy for me. The act of creation I find to be one of the most healing hobbies available, and it is my goal to aid others in finding their inner artist! I am very serious about making music easy and fun to learn. I have different techniques to ensure learning. I’m a good listener and I love to learn also. I’m familiar with all different types of guitars and I would love to build my own instrument one day. I studied classical music in high school under a former professional conductor who taught me many things about the fundamentals of music. Read More

There is no such thing as a "best method for everybody" but better methods for people's unique needs. For beginners, texts from Hal Leonard, Jamey Aebersold and Alfred's piano course are great examples to guide students through, but ultimately the specific text doesn't matter as long as I can teach the fundamentals necessary to be performance ready. After the basics are mastered, I'll introduce the skills needed for a first recital. Read More
