My professional orchestra career began in Bulgaria at The National Radio Orchestra and at the same time I was holding the first chair as a principal at New Symphony Orchestra with conductor and music director - Rosen Milanov –presently assistant conductor of Philadelphia Philharmonic. If teaching the 'cello, I like to use the instruction book that I learned from which is Samuel Applebaum's Beginning Strings book and around this I will introduce more international music, often in duet form to help with intonation. After the student develops good basic technique, then sonatas and concerti are gradually introduced. If teaching the piano, then I make sure that Dozen a Day for the beginners is incorporated with any of the beginning/intermediate books such as John Thompson's, Edna Mae Burnam's or Frances Clark's methods and for more advanced piano students the Hanon exercises are included along with the standard Classical repertoire. Once students grasp the fundamentals of reading music and producing sound on the cello, I guide them towards exploring Suzuki Books and build their repertoire from there. I started teaching piano to both children and adults in high school. One of them was 5 years old, the other was 6, and another was 13 years old. I've also taught a 19-year-old for a short period of time. For the two kids who were 5 and 6, they were total beginners at piano and did not know anything about piano so my main focus was to introduce them to this instrument and teach them the basics of music theories, scores, and postures.
