I have been playing cello for 20 years, after starting when I was 10. I was admitted to Jacksonville University at the age of 16 on a full scholarship, and there I pursued a double major in Music Theory Composition, and Cello Performance. I did my graduate work at Denver University, where I studied a variety of non-western musics, including Balinese gamelan, Ghanaian drumming, and Tuvan traditional music. I have been a classroom teacher (elementary, middle, and high school, in addition to teaching adults computer programming) for the past twelve years. I thoroughly enjoy working with students of all ages and helping them meet their goals. I began teaching cello part time 7 years ago when I was a freshman in college in Cincinnati. I’ve had the pleasure of teaching students from age 4 to 54. With students of all ages, I like to emphasize the importance of consistent practice in order to see improvement in their playing. However, I believe that learning to play the cello should be fun!
