I am a classically trained musician, specializing in woodwinds. I received my Bachelors of Music with an emphasis in Music Education and Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music in 2014. I have played with Symphonies, Big Bands, Jazz Bands, Ballets, and in many musical theater productions throughout California, and in Boston while attending Berklee. Read More

The technique I use is based on the Alexander Method of teaching and promotes proper breath control and tone placement over volume production and belting. Most singers, young and old, come to me with the idea that to create volume, you must yell or sing from your throat. With that mindset, what oftentimes happens is the voice will give out after five years and will result in the need of surgery to remove things like vocal nodules. Read More

My start in music was unexpected; I was set on a life in academia as a literature student when an honor band experience late in high school led me to swerve into a life in performing music. My teachers early on were very accepting and generous with me, as a student with vastly less experience than his peers, but I consumed their teaching ravenously. As a teacher, I began teaching young students as a summer job during my undergrad and later worked as a section coach for concert band clarinet sections in the Puget Sound area; during my graduate degree, I gave undergrads informal, routine lessons at their request, to supplement their own lesson experience. I always say that rhythm is more important than the notes. Play the right rhythm and the notes will come instead of playing every right note while sacrificing rhythm. I encourage students to make their mistakes loud, proud, and in rhythm so everyone has a better idea of what needs to be worked on most. I also emphasize isolating parts to practice and working backwards. Example: play the last two bars of the song until comfortable with it, now play the last 4 bars, last 6, last 8...etc., whole song. I am a motivated teacher who loves to teach flute and to share my passion of music. I graduated from San Francisco State University with my Bachelors in Music in Classical Flute Performance. I have studied with Leslie Chin and the second chair of the San Francisco Symphony, Linda Lukas. I have been able to work with some great conductors such as Dr. Martin Seggelke and John Williams. I am currently working on the soundtrack for the upcoming Star Wars film and I have completed the season 5 soundtrack of Game of Thrones in November of 2014. Read More

My students fall in love with music and frankly they fall in love with me. Why? Because we, together, create beautiful music together and have fun and inspiring times. Teachers that drive their students to play and do homework produce people that give up on their instruments and then talk to me when they're 30 yrs old, filled with regret that they didn't continue. Not their fault! They were driven to hate their instrument. Read More

My style of teaching also varies greatly with each individual. Some students have specific music from school or from outside music groups that they want to learn and also need to learn the skills to be able to play that particular music. Other students come with a desire just to improve their current abilities, and we find ways to do that by choosing inspiring music together. Sometimes playing duets is a great way to do that, and when its not possible to play together in real time I make recordings that the student can enjoy playing with. Read More
