Instruments: Voice Drums
Teaching music has always been my number one passion and lifetime goal. Playing a musical instrument (including voice) is empowering and enriches the soul. I enjoy teaching all levels and welcome beginners with no previous musical training. Practicing is the most important regimen a student must learn and while it requires dedication and hard work, practicing your instrument should always be a pleasant and satisfying experience. A good practice schedule includes a warm up, technical exercises and exploring stylistic repertoire the student is interested in performing. Read More

Every lesson is wrapped up with an obtainable goal for the next week. This will entirely depend on the student's level and individual goals for the instrument. Everyone has the end product in mind when it comes to learning an instrument. When someone picks up a Guitar, the learning process is not the first thing they think of: they think of the stage and sounding like their heroes. I'm here to remind all my students that there should never be an end; music is a never ending journey! Read More

In 2001 I was 14 growing up in Southern Wisconsin and developed a want to play guitar. I saw one for sale in a holiday catalog and asked my parents if I could get it. Luckily they said yes! I began lessons, and regular practice from there on. This new interest in music stoked a fire in my dads soul to begin playing drums again. He'd played regularly in a band til he was 18. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Naturally everyone is different and will progress at their own pace, so I would guide my instruction according to their wants, needs, skill level and also challenge them to venture beyond their comfort zone in each lesson. Being familiar with music is key and this can be accomplished at any age. The more a student becomes familiar with music, the more connections and comparisons the student will be able to make between drummers in all kinds of settings and genres of music, which will then enhance the student's playing on the drum set. For beginning students, I begin by introducing proper technique and the most basic rudiments, start George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control, and introduce basic rock beats. When the student has the fundamentals mastered, we'll begin working on more advanced rudiments and work from Ted Reed's Syncopation. For more advanced students, we will cover odd time signatures, latin grooves, jazz concepts, improvisation, and ways to compose grooves and fills. I encourage students of all skill levels to set goals and bring me materials they would like to learn. Read More

I began learning piano at the age of three. My dad is a band and chorus teacher and didn't consider it an "optional" skill. I actually learned to read music before english! (I was confused in kindergarten when I found that the alphabet went past G!) Music has been an integral part of my life since then with my elementary and high school years filled with festivals, concerts, auditions and competitions. Read More

There are many different ways to teach. Som of my methods are as follows. 1- Freestyle. Feeling a certain rythm and figuring out how and what to play as far as that genre goes. 2- Feel. Understanding the undertone of music and how it should be felt by a listener or an audience. 3- Placement. This is the art of putting different little embelishments, in music, and in songs. It halps the music to progress and gives it different dynamics and vantage points in which the musician can be felt and heard. 4- Hearing. Read More
