My methods to teaching beginners piano is very logical in that it the fundamentals I teach build upon each other. You can think of if like a pyramid. On the bottom of the pyramid we start with the notes of the piano. By the end of lesson one it is my goal for the student to know the name of every single note on the 88-key piano/keyboard. At the age of 17, I flew to Hollywood, CA to attend Musicians Institute where I studied Bass Guitar Performance. Learning from and playing with some of the best musicians in the business was amazing. I left school to hit the road with my first professional band. I spent the next 20+ years writing, recording and touring all over the country. I was lucky enough to be in a few bands that landed indie recording contracts, which allowed me to tour nationally doing original music, with songs I had written being played on radio and on TV shows across the country. My teaching experience began back when I was a junior in college. I started working with 2 high schools in the Daytona Beach area in the marching arts as well as private lessons. Upon moving back home in the metro Atlanta area after graduating, I began doing various clinics for high schools in the Dekalb and Fulton county areas in preparation for the schools spring concert band festival. I have been teaching private lessons for about 15 years, as well as camps and workshops. I have served as a clinician and instructor at Drumline camps and with Orchestra. I created the Percussive Arts Institute of Ruston to bring music education to an underserved community and taught around 100 students in an after-school program. I started teaching private lessons in high school, for free, to other students in the percussion section of both the concert and marching bands. Shortly after starting as a music major at Asbury Univeristy I continued to teach lessons. During my collegiate years I also was involved in taking private lessons and playing for all available percussion-needed ensembles (concert band, jazz band, orchestra, etc.). Consistenly since leaving high school I have also played in both rock bands and wedding bands and I consider these to be extremely helpful in my teaching experience. Read More
