My teaching style is much different than most schools. I have taken lessons my whole entire life and I decided to make a change. Parents will recieve a professional audio recoding of each lesson so they can hear what their child is working on. We offer recitals every month so student can showcase their talents to family and friends. This is crucial for students to perform so they can understand and feel the satisaction of performing music. My method of teaching focuses on Technique and Musicality. No matter the level of student, these areas can be practiced and results will be heard thru the focus on these. Reading music is taught, but naturally along with the focus on the two areas mentioned before. For example, Eddie wants to learn ACDC's "Back in Black". Eddie will learn the drum part to this song by observing the written notation and by listening and call/response training. Read More

I strongly believe that everyone is very different. Learning styles and musical goals are very much a part of this. Some find reading from a book helps them, so for most students I begin by recommending "A Modern Method For Guitar" from the Berklee Press, however for others a book is not as helpful as listening to some music and watching someone play. I like to introduce as much theory as is desired from the student because theory is a very important part of the musical process, but if the student prefers to get playing first and understand the “why” later then we can work something out in that regard. Depending on musical interest, we can work with different genre's and pieces to promote specific techniques and practice routines. Read More

I've had a lot of opportunities to sort my teaching out. I realize that if the student doesn't get it, it may be that I'm not putting it across effectively. So I had better try to slow things down or speed them up, model rather than explain, or vice versa! And always try smarter before trying harder, even though harder may be the right approach. Because in addition to teaching music I'm teaching approaches to learning. Read More

I have been teaching music since I was in High-School. My mentor and fellow drummer, is my main influence. He goes by the name of Nate Barnes. I have been playing for 20 years now. 18 years professionally. My first time playing live was at the age of 5. I am excited to begin teaching students about the art of music and in this case, drums. Here, we’ll have fun, enjoy the tasks at hand and build great future musicians. Read More

My lessons are very structured, but within the structure is a lot of freedom. An hour long lesson might look something like this: First 10 min.: Warm-ups, discussion about posture, hand position and muscular/skeletal health while playing. Next 10 min.: Performance of previous weeks assignments, with discussion about whether preparation was adequate, what was missed (usually dynamics and other articulations) and what could be done to improve. Next 10 min.: Based half on performance and half on my own ideas, work on a number of techniques to strengthen the weaknesses the student is facing. Read More

My main objective is to steer the pupil towards a place of autonomy so they are able to solve music related problems on their own and develop the intrinsic ability already present within themselves. It is important to be able to read music, notes and rhythms etc., due to the innumberable and undeniable advantages to being musically literate (this of course extends to, depending on the level of the student, music history and theory as well).
