I am a passionate musician, educator, conductor, and composer, and I have been happily obsessed with music since I began piano lessons at age 10. I joined the school band program in 6th grade, and since then, I have learned how to play and teach many different instruments. My primary instrument is percussion, but I play piano, low brass, clarinet, bass guitar, and I also have perfect pitch. For children I will typically start with Hal Leonard's Drums 1. I will use examples that build upon each other until we can construct full beats, playing along with a wide repertoire of music. It's important to get the younger student to have fun, building passion for their instrument. It is important to install a sense of confidence and feeling of progression when teaching, so I make sure to acknowledge every student's progress along with the desired improvements. Everyone can improve at every skill level, so I believe it is important to let the student know the amount of progress they've achieved from hard work. Belittling is not something I believe is an effective method of having someone fall in love with anything, especially not music. Read More
