Instruments: Drums Latin Percussion

My teaching style is based on few important axioms such as getting a proper technique and posture, expanding musical awareness and creativity, and having an open mind to different music and cultures. From that, I love to set goals with the student and work towards it. I will usually bring some work each lesson, and always leave space for something that the student wants to explore. I really want the student to be engaged and to be inspired. Read More

Being able to read music well allows you to pursue any type of written music you want to learn. Daily experimentation on your instrument can teach you more about the instrument and yourself than any book or teacher. These are the three main aspects that I focus in my own development (I'm still learning too!). For my piano students, I encourage them to search out opportunities to perform the music they work on every week. Read More

While Cory was in high school, he was selected to become a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Gibson Baldwin Grammy Jazz Ensemble where he performed with the High School Grammy Jazz Choir. Gaining exposure to various music programs around the country lead to Cory receiving a scholarship from Blue Note recording artist Jason Moran to attend college and he was selected as a 2006-08 Brubeck Institute Fellow at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. I usually don't believe in rules. I never really followed the rules as a musician and just played how I felt because of my gift. I make music sound more colorful and bright and I can add any instrument to music and make it sound good. Technically, I would just teach beginners how to play whatever instrument they want to learn. For example, if you want to learn how to play the piano, I will sit down with you the first day and we will go over how to play the piano and you will automatically be playing notes and chords after the first session. Instruments: Piano Guitar Voice Drums

Nothing makes me happier than having the opportunity to share my love of music and guitar. Upon graduating from Skidmore College in 2000, I was accepted to Florida State University to the classical guitar program under the study of Bruce Holzman. I feel my decision to simultaneously work towards two masters degrees speaks clearly for my motivation and passion towards music. While I focused on music theory/composition for my PhD studies at Louisiana State University, I continued performing newly composed works by graduate composers for the instrument. Read More

Choyce S

Instruments: Voice Drums

For beginning students who are children, I typically start the first day with allowing them to perform what they have learned prior so that I can see where their strengths and weaknesses are. Afterwards, I will work on their strengths so that they feel confident to tackle on their weaknesses. Once the student has progressed in fundamentals, I will advance them to solo repertoires appropriate for their performances. For adults, I allow the students to plan out what they want and will like to learn, while guiding my instruction accordingly so that lessons are met effectively. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
