I really look forward to starting my teaching career with private lessons. I believe that it is necessary to really listen and communicate with the student about his/her goals and the techniques/exercises that I utilize to help them achieve their goals. In private lessons I think that each student requires a individualized practice scheme, pace, and form of encouragement to achieve his/her goals. Read More

For teaching any person percussion/ drums there are very many different skill sets to be developed and understood. Reading music, playing with appropriate technique, and foot to hand coordination all make up the universe which is percussion. Starting a young percussionist there would be usually two components of the lesson. The first would be Technique and One surface drumming (Reading Basic Rhythms and music notation). The second half of a lesson would be working on the designated percussion instrument of the student's preference. Read More

I have taught guitar, drums and music on and off over the past 30 years. From children to seniors and ages in between, I say practice makes perfect! As a teacher I encourage my students to progress. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Naturally everyone is different and will progress at their own pace, so I would guide my instruction according to their wants, needs, skill level and also challenge them to venture beyond their comfort zone in each lesson. Being familiar with music is key and this can be accomplished at any age. The more a student becomes familiar with music, the more connections and comparisons the student will be able to make between drummers in all kinds of settings and genres of music, which will then enhance the student's playing on the drum set. Of course, every student is different, and an integral part of my philosophy involves getting to know each student so that I may learn their creative preferences, strengths, and weaknessness. This may apply less to guitar, however, if the student's primary ambitions are to learn songs by Green Day or The Beatles, etc. Read More
