My favorite piano method book for children is the Bastien Piano Basics Series. Alternately, I sometimes use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures. For very young children (3-6) "My First Piano Adventure," a Faber publication, is my book of choice. For adults, I usually use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, though sometimes I skip method books and play pieces picked by the student. When teaching drums/percussion, my method books of choice are Standard of Excellence and Winning Rhythms. Read More

I am friendly, fun, outgoing and encouraging. I will find student strength's, pinpoint and work on any weaknesses, and enjoyably introduce necessary topics in a musically progressive order. I will never yell at or talk down to a student. Any behavioral challenges will be discussed with parents. I do not skip steps. I accept differing techniques of all accomplished drummers and will help the student use the tried-and-true, explore the many variations, and help develop their own style and voice. Read More

I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. Performing in various Jazz groups throughout the state has enhanced my teaching knowledge in the field of music education. My Masters degree in music education has enabled me to develop as a well rounded instrumental music teacher, and also as a flexible individual when it comes to understanding my students' musical needs. My teaching experience spans back to when I was in High School. I came from a very fortunate music program that focused heavily on marching band and jazz music. I had helped many incoming freshmen develop the skills necessary to succeed in the music program and watched them blossom into very talented, hard working musicians. After high school I continued to teach students and help them prepare for outside ensemble auditions, college auditions, and working on college repertoire with fellow students. Read More

That being said, I like to let my students guide the direction we take in my lessons. We can work on beginner drum skills together, writing your own music, music theory, learning cover songs to play and much more! We can also change course at any moment as your needs change over time. I want to mention that I am a transgender female and I use she/her pronouns but this has no bearing on my ability to teach amazing lessons and I am one of the kindest and funniest people you'll ever meet! Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
