Once appropriate repertoire is selected, students are regularly assessed on their improvement and growth. I draw a great deal of my philosophy and pedagogy from outside sources and disciplines. Method books from world-renown artists and educators provide inspiration for my lesson plans. I often equate mastering music to mastering a foreign language; fluency resulting in mastery of vocabulary and communication. My teaching experience goes all the way back to 2003, when I was a percussion section leader in junior high school. I was a section leader throughout high school and on into my undergraduate degree in percussion. This involved both teaching groups of my peers but also giving individual attention to anyone who needed the extra help. When faced with a new student I always ask them what type of music they are into and what are they interested in learning and how that type of music makes them feel. David began composing and producing commercial music shortly after graduating high school, working for Panoptic Media.
