I am an incredibly passionate percussionist and composer in the Denver area. I have several years of experience in both concert and marching percussion, playing in the LMEA All State Band in high school and marching at the Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019 and 2022. For beginners, I try to keep thing informal and fun while teaching basics without putting any pressure to get into the technical stuff like hand technique and reading until they're ready. I develop a relationship with my students and I really enjoy it when I hear that they used a concept I taught them in our music lessons for something beyond music. I started teaching occasional private lessons while attending college. Though this started with teaching my friends, it branched out to some strangers as well. After graduating, I started teaching at a lesson studio, maintaining a steady roster of 20-25 students every week. Teaching has definitely helped me develop my own knowledge of my instrument as well! I have found that in addition to simply teaching concepts, talking about my past experiences learning my instrument helps students connect with the material at a deeper level because they can trace a path from where they are to where I am, ability-wise. My teaching experience began in 2008, when I began teaching private lessons on various instruments, on voice, and on conducting. I later went on to teach band and choir at Cedar Bluff High School in 2011. After this, I volunteered as the band director at Valley Head High School in 2014. I have enjoyed every moment of teaching music and have taken so much from the experiences that I've had.
