I'm a multi-instrumentalist with over a decade of teaching experience who really enjoys watching my students grow as musicians. In 2015, I graduated from Umass Amherst with a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance and Arts Administration. As one half of the duo, Kid Coyote, I have had the great fortune of being able to play up and down the east coast from Maine to Pennsylvania. I look forward to taking on new students and sharing with them what I have learned from my teachers and what I have picked up as a traveling musician. Read More

I am an accomplished musician and internationally renowned music educator. I have worked extensively as a performer, conductor, clinician and ensemble adjudicator at jazz festivals, and seminars in the United States, Europe and South America. The breadth of my teaching and performing background is rooted in the rigorous and varied training I received at the LaGuardia School of Performing Arts in New York City. My stylistic diversity enabled me to perform in a score of ensembles including concert band, symphony and chamber orchestra, brass ensemble, jazz choir and stage band. Read More

When a new student comes in for their first lesson, I always make sure that they have a grasp of the fundamentals. Without the fundamentals it is very easy to develop poor technique that will at best limit them in what can be accomplished on the instrument, and at worst lead to pain or injury from playing. Once we are comfortable with the fundamentals I want to start making music with them as soon as possible. Read More

I believe the proper technique is essential in order to be a successful percussionist. We would start by how to hold the stick properly, whether it be matched grip or traditional grip. From there we would move on to how to properly hit the drum and bounce the stick. The first few lessons are usually all about technique and approach and we would mainly stay on one drum or surface, but after that we would move to the drumset or another area that interests the student. My first priority when I meet a student is to nurture and begin to stoke their own fire and love for rhythm, music and the drums. I want the student to be happy, and to have fun. Progress is obviously one of my primary goals as well, however I don't believe a student can begin to make valid musical progress if they are not enjoying themselves. I belive I have crafted a perfectly balanced approach to teaching - I know exactly how to tailor to the needs of each student, and exactly how to work at their rate of learning. Read More

This is why I try to not ignore the deeper, more holistic aspects of the art, which is why I emphasize composition in my lessons. I will compose for my students pieces that highlight something they are working on, but I will also assign compositions for my students because kids love it and creativity yields a deeper connection to any given subject than, say, rote memorization. I love kids and do not stifle their creativity, without steering too far away from the task at hand, I like to listen to what they have to say because you never know what valuable information you may learn about their present perspective. I started teaching at the age of 16 at three different music stores in the Detroit area. My students were often times older than me so I was forced to adapt fast and develop lesson plans that might not be "standard". My lessons focus on technique and musicality so the students can see their skill develop fast, and most of all they can have fun while learning due to my focus on musicality and focusing on the students favorite music to not only play but listen to.
