My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons and running sectionals at the conservatory in my hometown. I have been consistently teaching students since either in my home studio, or at different private and public institutions. I have held different faculty positions in colleges in the past 6 years. There really is no limit to which methods work for people. Every person learns their own way, and it is true that a variety of methods work for an individuals learning process. I like to teach the way I practice. In a "perfect" practice day I would pick a "mode" or specific scale (1/2 step, whole step) and play around this "idea" with a metronome. I practice in as many tonal centers as possible (out of 12). I try to find motives and rhthyms to repeat or change (must hear what's to be played before if possible). I teach each student based on their needs and goals. Fundamentals are key to playing well. I always want learning to be fun but effective. I teach the student how to practice to reach goals and help the student set goals. I teach in terms of musicality followed by technicality.
