I am a saxophone player, composer, and educator based in upper Manhattan. I grew up in Massachusetts, where I attended the New England Conservatory Preparatory School, and later went to the University of Manitoba on a full scholarship to study with Jon Gordon. After finishing my undergraduate degree, I toured across Canada with several bands, and then moved to New York to continue my professional career. For beginners students, I start with Trevor Wye's Beginners Book for Flute, as well as Rubank's selected duets (Volume 1), and Marcel Moyse The Debutante Flutist. Once we have covered the basic foundations of the flute and have formed a core sound, I then introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for the students. For all of my students, I always like to ask what they are interested in playing, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

All of my students learn through working towards practical and achievable goals that we set together. Beginning students are introduced to the fundamentals of music and flute technique through pairing theoretical exercises with practical, tangible music-making. This sets up a habit from day one that all of the concepts that we learn have a real-life purpose. For beginning students who are children, I like to start with either the Rubank Elementary Method or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, as I find these provide a strong foundation in proper technique and sound, and reading music. As we move through this method, I will introduce exercises to help the student further develop a good sound on their instrument. At the same time, we will also begin to play solo and duet repertoire. Instruments: Piano Flute Recorder Piccolo

 In addition to teaching I am an active freelance flute and piccolo player. I love playing in symphonies and opera orchestras and have worked with conductors Pierre Vallet, Keith Chambers, and David Bernard among others. I particularly love the exhilaration of soaring above the orchestra on piccolo. I have performed at venues throughout the city including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Symphony Space.  I received my Bachelor's in Music in Flute Performance from New York University, graduating summa cum laude in 2007. New York-based musician Daniel Jamieson grew up in Toronto, Canada. He currently works as a free-lance composer, conductor, woodwind specialist, and educator. Daniel's writing commissions span a variety of styles including jazz, pop, and musical theatre. He leads a 10 piece jazz ensemble, the Daniel Jamieson Tentet and his own big band, the Danjam Orchestra. Daniels acclaimed 2011 debut release, SUDDEN APPEARANCE, places him at the forefront of the current crop of young big band leaders.The project was produced by Jim McNeely and featured John Riley on drums. I have beenteaching three kids and teenagers since my sophomore year of college. Ever since then, I have learned that I absolutely love teaching music! I have always liked working both kids and young adults around my age equally and I find it easy to be energetic and enthusiastic as a teacher with my students.
