I follow the classic Hal Leonard method books to begin and then, depending on the students goals and musical tastes move on to other books and works. For Jazz students I use The Real Book Vol. 1 For most students a fundamental part of understanding music and the instrument itself is music theory. Students will be given some basic music theory and reading skills to reinforce their guitar training. The most important thing to me is that the students learn and play music that they want to study. I am a strong believer in listening before you play. When it comes to younger students this can be challenging, yet also rewarding. Younger students require a lot of demonstration as far as how to hold and position your fingers. It is a lot of muscle memory, and most new students need proper technique to get them to enjoy their instrument. I find this takes patients. For more advanced students I would get into music theory, improvising/experimentation, ear training, and composition. Read More

I listen to what the student has to say, and also hone in on where they are currently in their musicianship. This allows me to really see what areas need to be focused on specifically. I strongly encourage students to push themselves and will often provide slightly more challenging material to help them improve. One of the most rewarding moments is seeing a concept/idea click with a student. The lightbulb moment is absolutely inspiring, not just for students, but for everybody else involved as well. I approach teaching with enthusiasm, empathy, and creativity, creating an environment where students feel supported, encouraged, and inspired. I see teaching as more than imparting knowledge; it's about nurturing creativity, building confidence, and instilling a lifelong appreciation for music. The joy of witnessing a student's growth, not only as a musician but as an individual, is a reward that continually drives my love for teaching. Read More

I was studying Electrical Engineering for two years at Tufts University before I decided to take a leap and follow my passion of music. It has been an incredible journey ever since! I have had the oppurtunity to play a wide variety of musical styles including rock jam-band, folk trio, jazz ensembles, latin jazz, chamber music, solo, duo, avante-garde, electronic, and many more. No matter what the situation, I always love to play, create, and share music with others. Read More

Are you interested in learning to play the guitar and want an enjoyable experience that will get you playing songs quickly and with a lot of joy? As a self taught player I have struggled with the how/when/what to practice and finally decided why I was learning to play the guitar. My personal goal is to always improve, but the main reason I play the guitar is for the sheer enjoyment of it as well as producing sounds/songs that I find enjoyable (and if listeners enjoy it that is just a bonus).
