I start of my lessons by asking how much the student practiced for the week. Then I ask them if there was anything that was confusing for them so we can work on that first. I let the student pick what they want to start with first and then I will pick the next exercise. Every student has their own particular set of strengths and weaknesses, goals and time contraints. I take the time to understand what each student is looking to get out of their lessons and custom-tailor a unique lesson plan for each student accordingly. Repertoire includes any songs or pieces that students are interested in learning and will be arranged to scaffold their current skill level. My teaching also places a special emphasis in improvisation - since much of modern guitar music is written from a place of improvisation and involves improvising, I believe it is a vital skill for students to have.
