If they are just starting to play guitar I can show them chords and songs that are not too difficult and help them develop their style from the get go. When the student has developed a grasp of the fundamentals I will begin to introduce solo repertoire that will build upon that fundamental knowledge and engage them in the joy of performance. For adults, I engage the students interest in music and find repertoire and exercises that reflect their goals and desires.
