My teaching style is heavily student focused: By listening to my student's voice and choice, I want to work together to create musical goals for them that we can develop as we progress. While I believe in creating a learning environment focused on intrinsic motivation, I hope my positive attitude and love for music can serve as a source of inspiration for my students! The most important aspect of any lesson is the joy that we bring to it, which is crucial to us developing musical skills and beautiful music. Read More

As lessons progress another part of my teaching method is to teach students something they can be proud of. For younger students that might be a nursery rhyme they know all the words to and feel like they can perform for their parents, for older students it might be a song they love and hear on the radio and always wanted to learn how to play. By doing this early on I hope to show students that with their hard work they can make music they're proud of and show them the benefits of practicing and reaching goals. Read More

Positive reinforcement is key. I never learned from the mean or the overly strict teachers. In fact those teachers pushed me in the opposite direction of wanting to pursue music professionally. By going at the pace that is comfortable to the student, and praising them at every hurdle they encounter, the progress made can be exponentially greater than if the student is rushed to prepare a piece of music they don't truly care for in the first place. When I was 15 years old I began teaching to a few kids I knew from high school on guitar. I also began teaching my friend Max Kroll's little brother who was only in 3rd grade at the time. I continued teaching on and off for money and just for friends who wanted to learn throughout the last ten years. I believe like anything else teaching music lessons is about networking and keeping a positive reputation so students will refer me other students. Read More

I am a strong advocate in fusing together practice and performance. I personally have had teachers that focused too much on technical studies and theory, and not enough time on incorporating those skills into performance; which is the main reason why many people have a desire to learn a musical instrument. In my lessons, I focus on developing skills that are essential to my student's overall musical development. These skills include music theory, ear training, rhythmic analysis, technique, and finally, applying all those skills into a performing setting. Read More

My favorite skill level to teach are intermediate guitarists who are looking to take their skills to the next level. I use an interdisciplinary course of study that touches upon several different styles and music theory applications. Diversity is one of the most important parts of leveling up one's skill level, so I try to encourage intermediate players to consider looking at several styles, including classical, jazz, rock, blues, and of course my main specialty, metal.
