One of my first jobs was teaching electric guitar. I love guitar and I love music. When I teach, my students have fun and learn quickly. My teaching style is casual, with an intensive focus on technique and theory, as well as the songs and music that my students want to learn. I have helped some students advance their own music career. By sharing my vast knowledge and experience, my students, through practice, advance quickly. Read More

Theres nothing more fulfilling for me as an instructor than witnessing my students ignite their passion for music. In line with the teachings of great musicians like Victor Wooten, particularly his work on Music is the Language, I firmly believe that every student is a unique musical soul, and its crucial that they progress at their own pace. To nurture this individuality, I employ a student-centric approach, setting realistic and personalized goals at every lesson. Read More

I've been a professor of guitar for more than two dozen years at four nearby universities, teaching through the Master's level in Jazz and Classical Guitar Performance. Many of my former students have been or are currently professors of guitar at colleges and universities (WVU, West Virginia Wesleyan, Kenyan, Fairmont State, McHenry, Bethany, Frostburg), have been admitted to prestigous musical conservatories or universities, placed as finalists in statewide musical competitions, or have established themselves as performers or teachers in the field. I look forward to watching my students learn and mature in their music. It is important that each student feels comfortable and not rushed in their learning progression. Therefore, I will make sure each student is learning at their own pace and feels comfortable enough to stop me if I am moving too fast. I will work with my students to set realistic goals for the week. Additionally, I seek to find ways to make practice fun and individualized to each students so that they want to practice when they get home. Read More

My approach and methods of teaching are simply this: Enjoy the learning experience without getting bogged down with staring at sheet music for hours on end. Ear training and motor memory will provide a much more enjoyable learning experience and will render results at a much faster pace than "books". However, "books" are important to some degree I admit. But, practice and dedication will render the most important result....and that is ....PLAYING AND ENJOYING THE GUITAR!!!!!!!....and the music and joy it brings along. Read More

I view music education as a form of therapy. If my students continue to have a genuine desire to use music as an outlet for expression, stress regulation, confidence building, developing healthy relationships with themselves, etc, then I am doing my job. My teaching style adapts to meet the needs, interests, and goals of each individual student. I constantly strive to help highlight each student's strengths and work through their weaknesses.
